Hypnosis - Common Questions & Answers

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, normal state of mind that allows access to your subconscious mind. Used professionally, Hypnosis can help reduce stress, address pain management, help with fears, unresourceful habits, and help you create your success... If you want it to happen. Hypnosis is a procedure that can be helpful to effect changes in sensations, perceptions, thoughts, feelings or behaviours.

Hypnosis is…
…a natural, normal state of mind we often slip into in our daily lives.
…a state of heightened susceptibility to suggestion.
…a natural state of deep physical and mental relaxation, and intensified concentration. This state of physical and mental relaxation and intensified concentration allows the subconscious mind to be more open to suggestions and to focus on the desired goals. The suggestions are designed to cater to the various ways in which your subconscious mind processes information to better assist you with your desired outcome.

Hypnosis is not…
… sleep, NOT a state of unconsciousness, NOT a loss of control to someone else. You are always in control. You can hear and be aware of everything that is going on around you. You can think, itch, scratch, talk and make decisions. While under hypnosis you will not say or do anything that you wouldn't normally do or say nor give any secrets away. There is no way you will violate your own private sense of morality or propriety.

How does Hypnosis work?
Your conscious mind is the critical filter which filters or edits processed information traveling from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind. Under Hypnosis, you allow the conscious mind to observe rather than interfere.

Why use hypnosis?
Let us begin by looking at what people want. Would you like to enjoy better health? Be happier? Experience the satisfaction of a more successful life? Improved relationships?

Hypnosis can help to assist with inner strength, help in surviving adversities and help to improve ourselves in ways that assist in leading fuller, richer lives. How would it feel to create the reality you desire? How would it feel to have more energy, better health, success and happiness?

Hypnosis uses the vast potential of your mind to reshape your reality. How would it feel for you if you could transform nervousness into helpful, productive energy? Address unwanted habits and deal with weight management? Deal with fears more resourcefully and cultivate a more positive self-image?. Remember where you misplaced an object? Ease yourself to sleep more easily at night? Pprepare for surgery?  The birth of a child? Develop your memory and creativity? Improve your sales? Improve your golf game, your tennis or any other sport you enjoy? Attract more love, more success and fulfillment in life?

What does Hypnosis feel like?
You feel relaxed. At ease. You can hear everything, think, itch, scratch, talk and make decisions. You can also choose to come out of trance at any time. You are always in control. You will not do or say anything that you would not normally do or say. There is no way you will violate your own private sense of morality or propriety or give any secrets away.

Can I get "stuck" in Hypnosis
No. There is no possible way for this to happen. If for some reason the Hypnotist leaves the room or is interrupted, you will gently come out of trance, just as you do each morning coming out of sleep.

Will I always know where I am?
Yes. You will hear everything around you and be aware of what is going on at all times. In fact your senses may become heightened.

What happens in a session?
The first session is usually 1 1/2 hours subsequent sessions are about 1 hour. Your goals are discussed with the hypnotist and the induction script is prepared. You are gently hypnotized into a trance state. Suggestions are given to your subconscious mind to make the positive changes you desire. When appropriate, you are also taught a simple self hypnosis technique and provided with a Hynpotic recording so that your treatment can continue at home. You emerge from the hypnotic state feeling relaxed and energized.
